Travelling the river and wetlands

Today was pretty much a travel day - but what a day it was.  We started in Battambang and ended in Siem Reap - and we travelled the entire distance by boat!  It took about 6 hours which is apparently good timing - sometimes the journey can take as long as 9 hours.  And we were really fortunate - we were the first tour group this season that's been able to make the journey by boat.  Up until now people have been having to go by land as there wasn't enough water for the boats to pass through.

I don't have a lot of text to accompany today's blog post --- I'm hoping the pictures will speak for themselves.
The pictures are in order from leaving Battambang along the Tonle Sap River, to travelling through the narrow waterways and some protected wetlands, through many floating villages, to eventually arrive in Siem Reap.

I had a fabulous day.

 Here we are setting off
And this is the boat we went in.

This is one of the less sophisticated Happy Places I've used so far - it's an overhang off the house over the water.
But it had a nice view!

  2. I had a fabulous day said it all, sweet girl. So glad you are doing this - I know it felt a little bit like your bones were too old for this adventure, but there's no way you could have appreciated it half as much at 20.
