Pandemic response - Weeks 102 and 103

The province of Ontario continues to relax COVID restrictions - to mixed reviews from medical professionals.  Everyone seems to be in agreement that we have to learn to live with COVID and yes, the number of people currently hospitalized due to COVID is lessening, but there are questions about whether restrictions are being loosened too soon and too quickly.  I guess only time will tell.  Our vaccination rates are good - could be better but overall good - and thousands upon thousands of people got Omicron, so there’s more ‘herd immunity’ then ever before.

Nothing really of note in life these past couple of weeks.  I came back to the lake a couple of days ago - always nice to have the change of scenery and you can see the photos.

I had a unique vantage point into this construction site - I thought it was interesting how they’ve built all those big pillars (on the left) to support the facade of the original building that is going to be incorporated into the new, 41 storey condominium building.

As opposed to an incompetent signal person???

A snow-covered Beltline Trail

What is this???  More Christmas decorations all by themselves!

These magnolia buds mean magnolia flowers…whenever spring might like to make an appearance!

Chinese New Year was a few weeks ago but I happened to see these decorations while out walking today.

Random icicles.

Some little person is missing a precious book!

Got back just in time for sunset!

For now anyway, the snow has melted off the beach but there’s still a thick coverage of shoreline ice, and lots of ice on the lake.

Looking down on the Maitland River at Goderich…and from there a friend and I walked a few kilometres along the Goderich to Guelph (G2G) Trail.

A couple of nice big ships in the harbour at Goderich.

And here are some of the fishing boats just waiting to come back to Bayfield.

Mr. or Mrs. beaver has been hard at work!

At some point there had to have been a big thaw on the Bayfield river, and there are huge slabs of ice all over the sides of the river and the flat land beside the river now.

Perhaps others came to watch the ice slabs too?

It’s a super messy looking Bayfield River right now!

It was only for a couple of hours, but the temperatures were enough above freezing today to melt parts of the river enough for there to be moving water.

And a bit of open water in places out in the lake too.

Cracks in the shoreline ice…really not safe to be on now!

The following photos are taken from pretty much the same location on three consecutive days.  Days 2 and 3 were ‘warmer’, with temperatures at, and then above freezing each day consecutively.  I always think it’s so cool to see how much, and how quickly, the ice can change.
