Cheryl's Travels: April 2020

Another week starts much the same way the last one ended...and the one before that...and the one before that...As I’ve said before, nothing like this would have ever factored into my wildest thoughts or imagination.

WALK # 1

There are a few houses here in the village that I have always loved. Better to take photos of them now because once the trees get leaves on them most of these houses are ‘hidden’.

Even when there are new owners this place has been pink my entire life.

We’ve nicknamed this one the “Hansel and Gretel” house or the “Gingerbread House”

WALK # 2
Today was a complete mixture of weather - you name it, we got it...with the one constant being the temperature - the whole day was COLD!!

Started with snow

Followed by hail

And then a snow squall as I was setting out on my walk. Needless to say, it was a short walk today!

This has never been here before - I don’t know, it is because they know all the other public washrooms are closed?

Wishful thinking

More snow again at the end of my walk...and then the horizon cleared

The sun just managed to peak through the heavy, somewhat snow-laden clouds

WALK # 3

When the waves aren’t quite so fierce you can actually see the entrance into the harbour

Built in 1847, The Little Inn started as a stagecoach stop and then became the village’s first hotel

Built in 1882, the Town Hall was the seat of government from then until 1927, and again from 1967 to 1984. Now it’s a performing arts centre.

WALK # 4 - another very grey day today, but things were a tiny bit warmer so no snow at any rate. We still have yet to get into double digit temperatures though which is very below seasonal for this time of year.

It’s hard to see but the sign above the arch says “welcome to the zoo”... that was sort of my day today

I don’t know, but when there are only about 500 people here, isn’t all traffic ‘local’?

Quickly on and off the beach again because it’s closed right now —- and I don’t want a $1000.00 fine!

WALK # 5

Safety is very important here, so there’s even a stop sign at the end of a pedestrian trail through the woods!

Here comes dinner - and by the time I walked around to the other side of the harbour they had today’s catch unloaded! Couldn’t be fresher!

I think that because there are fewer people around I’m starting to notice I can get quite a bit closer to out lovely robins than you usually can!

Oh my goodness, but might that actually be clearing on the horizon???

Not spectacular, but after the string of grey (and snowy) days we’ve had this week I really needed this sunset

WALK # 6 - realizing I hadn’t driven my car in a week I decided to go for a little drive just to give it a run, so these first few photos weren’t really on a walk, rather a drive. I did go for a walk though when I got back.

I love this house, especially the roof!

I don’t know what I would do with an abandoned church in the middle of nowhere, but I have been in love with this place for years!

Now on my walk - I love this ‘weeping’ tree. And I remember when they built the place behind it - I thought a triangular shaped building was the coolest!
