Pandemic response - Week 45

Week 45 began with the same action happening down at the marina.  Not much has changed overnight - in fact if anything it might actually have sunk down a little bit further.

And then the heavy equipment arrived to help.  First one..

And then a second...

And then when everything was ready, the cranes slowly started to lift and the pumps started to pump out the water.

At the end of the day it was out of the water enough for them to see exactly where the problem was - and the next step will be to hopefully fix it, while the cranes continue to hold up the boat.

Another 24 hours, the cranes are gone and she’s completely upright again

And the next day they were starting up the engine again.  I’m glad it’s not going to be my job to be on her for that first trip!

The river may look like solid ice...but it’s not!  And every day is different.

Despite all the snow we’ve been getting you can still find bare patches

Here I thought we’d had a fair bit of snow this week already...and then there was Friday! Woke up to about 20 cms which fell overnight.

Couldn’t shovel it fast enough - it just kept falling!

Snow plow’s been down one side of the road but not the other.

These extension arms are put on all the fire hydrants...and here’s why!

One of Bayfield’s village owned ‘streets’

It might look solid...but really it’s not!

I met a couple down at the pier when I was walking there yesterday (photos above) and they were telling me how thick and solid they thought the ice was.  I reminded them that we’d really only had any ice covering at all for about 10 days and it likely wasn’t that stable, regardless of how it looked.  I could tell they disagreed with me ... but I wish they could have come back today - 24 hours later.  And Week 45 ends with a couple hours of beautiful sunshine too!

A very popular way of getting around Bayfield in the winter.

Local kids love these for sliding!

Oh my goodness - is that actually my shadow?  I thought I’d lost it!
