Finishing my visit and travelling in the outback

Just to end my visit in Broken Hill I thought I'd do one last post, as there is at least one more important thing in Broken Hill that I haven't highlighted yet --- and that is the Palace Hotel.

The Palace Hotel was built in 1889 and it was originally erected as a coffee house by the temperance movement who commissioned the build.  But what really attracted me to the Palace Hotel was the fact that it was used for many scenes in the filming of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Today was basically a travel day - back to Waikerie along the same route I travelled to Broken Hill a few days ago.  I know I highlighted some of the scenery in a previous post but something else to share is what could be called "broken dreams".  In many places along the highway you can see old and abandoned homes, many of them that were clearly built of excellent stonework.  These old homes certainly do demonstrate just how hard the living conditions would have been here a century ago --- and in many ways still are today.

In fact, how more remote can you get then when you pass the sign to the  "Worlds End Hwy"?

We stopped for a cuppa on the way back in Burra - and there is a little kangaroo sanctuary there where they help look after kangaroos that have been injured along the highways.  One very interesting kangaroo they have there right now is a white kangaroo - pretty rare!  White kangaroos are not albino kangaroos, rather they are a strain of the Western Grey kangaroo.

Crossing the Murray River at the end of a long day of driving signified that I was close to "home" again.

And again just to reassure you that I am alive and doing well - here I am on the "Big Seat" located in Broken Hill.
