A little special post - for special people

Just a quick little post of somewhere I passed on my way from Broken Hill to Waikerie - and there are a few very special people in my life who I'm hoping will get a kick out of this.

Welcome to Peterborough - Peterborough, South Australia that is.  Peterborough SA has a current population of approx. 1500 people.  Peterborough sits on the intersection of the east-west railway (linking Port Pirie and Broken Hill) and the north-south railway (linking Adelaide with Alice Springs).  The town is also served twice-weekly by the Indian Pacific train.

Peterborough is also the hometown of Bob the Railway Dog.  Bob (born in 1878) was one of many stray dogs rounded up in Adelaide in 1883, and he was supposed to be used to help exterminate rabbits.  Instead, Bob was adopted by a railway guard and soon began travelling on the trains, first with his owner and then on his own, jumping on and off the trains as the mood took him.  He travelled far: to Broken Hill, Melbourne, Sydney and many other places.  When he died in 1895 he was mourned by the travelling public all over Australia.

And this is the current Town Hall building - built in 1926.

Just a little comparison to Peterborough, Ontario.
