Inspired by the international Nuit Blanche movement, White Night Melbourne is an all-night, free cultural event that offers a mix of free and ticketed entertainment including visual art, spectacular illuminations, music, theatre, special dining experiences, film, design and performances. I headed into the city centre just before sunset and spent a wonderful few hours watching some spectacular sound and light displays, listening to music, checking out some art installations, watching performing arts, and just generally loving being a part of the atmosphere. Here are a few highlights:
A sound and light display on the wall of the NGV
The Arts Centre spire was lit up spectacular colours all night
Federation Square
Opera inside St. Paul's Cathedral, with a light display in the background
Flinder's Street Station
An installation on the Town Hall
A sound and light display on the State Library
Performers from "Circus Circus" were all over the city
And to end my evening, several hours later, another fabulous sound and light display on the Royal Exhibition Building
