Natuashish

One other place that the Northern Ranger stops on its route is at Natuashish.

Natuashish is an Innu community in northern Labrador, located between Nain to the north and Hopedale to the south.  Natuashish is inhabited by the Mushuau Innu First Nation.  Natuashish (Little Sango Pond) was established in 2002 as a planned community in the hopes of resolving the social problems that had plagued the prior community of Davis Inlet.

Natuashish is actually located approximately 8 kms inland from where the ferry docks, so there was no opportunity for us to see the community.  However like in all the other ports, the arrival and departure of the Northern Ranger is important, and so it was fun even to watch the comings and goings at the dock.
