Continuing north - next stop, Postville

Located on scenic Kaipokok Bay, Postville is home to approximately 190 residents and is the smallest of the five communities in Nunatsiavut.  A Quebec merchant, D.R. Stewart, was the first known settler to occupy land near Postville where he established a trading business with the local Inuit people who would trade in the area throughout the fall, winter and spring before returning to coastal camps for summer fishing.  Stewart sold out to the Hudson Bay Company in 1837 and the community was first known as The Post because of the HBC trading post located in the area.  In 1843 two French Canadians arrived at The Post and established their own trade with local residents.  Their success caused the HBC to close their post in 1878.   The Post was renamed to Postville in the 1940s by a pastor that helped establish the town by building a school and a church in the area.

Although small, Postville is a beautiful little place and the residents I met who live there clearly love their community!
