Pandemic response - Week 94 - Happy New Year!

Week 94 ends with us now entering the third calendar year of this pandemic: started in 2020, the entire year of 2021, and now into 2022.  I don’t think any of us could have ever imagined this.

Another burst of colder, windy weather to start this week and the last of these apples are finally off the trees…just waiting for the squirrels.

In the first weeks of the pandemic these “tout est possible” messages started to pop up all around my neighbourhood and beyond.  I guess after 94 weeks of pandemic life people are getting a little less optimistic (lol).

Lynde Shores Conservation Area is about an hour east of Toronto. It’s an area just over 300 hectares - it provides an excellent habitat for nesting birds and is an important stopover point for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds.

The ruins of what was likely an old barn.

Lots of lost clothing here today!  That’s what always happens when it warms up just enough to take the hat and mittens off.

Button on the beach.

Wild turkeys…and this woman was completely unaware.

I know Christmas was last week and I posted a lot of decorations, but here’s a few more that I thought were worthy of a photo.  Last year there was a ‘movement’ throughout Ontario asking municipalities to leave their Christmas lights and decorations up until the end of January, to bring a little light while we were all in lockdown.  I haven’t heard of anything like that planned for this year, so I’m thinking decorations will start to disappear soon.

Can you see the photographer - me?

My goodness - I wonder who that brilliant person is who thinks purple lights are perfect for Christmas?

I watched a little grey squirrel for a while today.  He would run up a tree and gnaw pine cones off the branches, then from wherever they landed on the ground, he carefully picked them up and carried them over to these piles.

Another miracle little flower still blooming in January.

This pyre (hopefully not for use with a corpse - lol) is on the beach in front of my neighbour’s place.  They have 4 boys - approx. 15-25 years old - and I’m guessing New Year’s Eve?

It was mild on New Year’s Eve so I decided to go for a walk in the evening, along Main Street and a little bit throughout the village.  Thought I’d share that walk here:

January 1st - not a super windy day, but enough that some surfers are out.  Kind you find the four of them?

And to end the week -  the first snow of 2022.  To shovel or not to shovel - always the question.  We didn’t really have enough to merit shovelling but I thought this might be a good way to gently ease my muscles back into that chore again.

What is this - a bit of blue sky??  Didn’t last long but amazing nonetheless!

It’s not wide spread, but in a few places you can see where ice is starting to form on some wet surfaces.

So many shades of grey.
