Naftel’s Creek Conservation Area

Naftel’s Creek Conservation Area is about 12kms north of Bayfield and offers some lovely trails through a wide variety of environments...mixed conifer plantations and deciduous forests and hardwood and wetland areas, with boardwalks allowing access to the wetland areas.  Although most of the trails have a fairly dense canopy of trees, it is still quite bright and airy.  There was a lot of fallen trees on the forest floor but for me that just added to the beauty of the trails.

Naftel’s Creek - known for speckled and rainbow trout and in the fall, chinook salmon.  Unfortunately I didn’t see either - but it was still lovely!

A little off-shoot from the main trail takes you to this beautiful meadow

Yup - you really are walking in a highly rural area here...and hopefully these signs (which I might add are right along the walking trail) are obeyed!

There are actually four different trails you can take here - each one is looped and they join onto each other.  Of course I couldn’t pass up walking the purple trail!

It was nice to have the trail markers too because at times, especially with all the ground cover right now, you could do a bit of guessing about exactly where the trail was!

Are these one tree?  Or multiple trees?  Impossible to tell!

One lone red leaf among the pine needles

At one point along the trail there’s a little area with several ‘memorial rocks’ dedicated to local residents.  This is one that I particularly liked, the inscription reads “His love of nature inspires us all”.8
