Along the coast from Mount Kiera to Point Clare, with a stop in Sydney

On my way from Corowa to Point Clare I stopped overnight in Wollongong.  Visible from the place where I was staying is Mount Keira, which forms part of the Illawarra escarpment.  The summit of Mount Keira has an elevation of 464 metres and is noted for the views of the city from the summit.

A beautiful frangipani after rain the night before.

A cloudy day unfortunately but we went to the summit to check out the lookout anyway.  Looking down on Wollongong.

Ornamental ginger plants - beautiful flowers just growing alongside the road up Mount Keira.

We stopped en route up the coast in the Sydney suburb of Woolloomooloo (how’s that for a great name!).  Had lunch at the Woolly Bay Hotel which has been there for over 100 years.

Woolloomooloo is known for Finger Wharf, an old cargo dock that now attracts a trendy clientele with fine dining.

The Woolloomooloo Sculpture Walk is on right now, featuring large scale Australian sculptures.  When I come back to Sydney later in my travels I’d be very interested in coming back to see more!

A stop at the Art Gallery of New South Wales was on the agenda for today and outside the gallery there are also some really interesting, and really big, sculptures!!

And some really lovely exhibits inside too!  Again, there will be lots more to see if I have time to come back again.

Looking out over the suburbs of Woolloomooloo and Darlinghurst.

Some of the Royal Australian Navy ships at HMAS Kuttabul.

Harry’s Cafe de Wheels is an iconic pie cart in Woolloomooloo, proudly serving customers for over 80 years, with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sir Elton John and Prince Harry having been some of the many to sink their teeth into an iconic pie.

Just about to drive over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Nearly at my ‘home’ for the next little while, with one final stop at Umina Beach on the Central Coast.  It’s a beautiful 4 kms of sand looking out onto Broken Bay and the Bouddi Peninsula.

A magpie - found all over Australia.

Who’s that playing tourist on Umina Beach?
