Maitland Woods Trail (Week 51)

I found a lovely, little serene trail this week, on the south side of Goderich, called the Maitland Woods Trail.  Even in the winter I could see that it is rich in its variety of trees and plant life, and a couple of surprise creeks and ponds added to the interest.

Because the trail was still very snow covered I didn’t notice it at first, but a good deal of the trail is boardwalk over wetland areas.  I’ll look forward to coming back here again when the snow is gone to see what all this area has to offer.

Perhaps previously as well, but certainly this year when outdoor learning is being strongly encouraged in schools, towards the end of the trail I could see a little spot that I think is being used as an outdoor classroom.  No classes here when I was, but I think one of the things they may be doing is feeding the little chickadees like the one above.  When I was there not only were the chickadees enjoying the seeds, but so was a little red squirrel!
