Pandemic response - Week 17

Back in Bayfield again and I’m thinking it might be time to wind down these weekly posts soon - but there are still a couple more that I’d like to put together.  Although COVID-19 has certainly not gone away, I am on summer holidays now and so things are feeling a bit more ‘normal’, even if they’re not.  The pressures of having to be working remotely and finding some new routines for my life are now very different.  I won’t be able to have my friends here for our annual potluck dinner unfortunately, but unless things worsen in terms of pandemic responses we will still be able to join each other for a glass of wine when the weather is nice and we can be outside...which thankfully in the summer time is often.

Running so fast to get to the beach someone literally ran out of their shoes?

These aren’t the norm on Lake Huron but they’re wonderful when they happen.  I call them “air mattress days” - you can float forever on the lake and not drift anywhere.  When you consider how big the lake is it’s easy to understand why we don’t get too many days like this - with little to no wind!

The only ripples in the water are caused by me walking!

At the start (above) and end (below) of sunset tonight.

Today was a very mixed-bag of weather - which often happens when you’re located on such a big body of water, and especially when we’ve had a stretch of really hot and humid days like we’ve had recently.  Most of the day was sunny and still - and of course I headed down to the beach at one point.

But then you could start to see the skies changing...

And the wind picked up - yes, that hammock is supposed to be horizontal to the ground...not vertical!

You can see it moving in across the lake

And then everything blew over, as often also happens.  Don’t know if they got rain inland a few kilometres or not, but we didn’t get a drop.  The day ended with a beautiful sunset...made more spectacular with the lingering clouds!

Another hot and hazy day dawned the next day

Get in the water quick...

Can you see the little bit of colour on this piece of driftwood...it was destined to be found by me!

Look at what all the lovely flowers I photographed a couple of months ago have become.

I love small towns, or in my case a village.  During a pandemic when only outside dining is allowed, here the restaurants are allowed to extend their patios...right out onto the road!

Still some empty slips but this is looking better!

How do you like this - it’s a gigantic solar panel on the top!

I decided to stay down at the pier for sunset tonight.

My place is somewhere up on the hill.

Another perfect ‘air mattress’ day - but no breeze at all means it’s REALLY HOT!!

This little stuffie is playing their own game of ‘hide-and-go-seek’ - hopefully the owner will find it soon!

When I said we like to display our flag I wasn’t kidding!

You can tell from the flowers the seasons have changed.  Gone are all the tulips and daffodils, and unfortunately because it’s been so hot and dry a lot of the summer flowers are not faring so well.  Occasionally though I pass a garden where the owner is obviously giving Mother Nature a hand with the watering.

I continue to love all the different shades of green in our trees...and then with a splash of red!

Not the best sunset tonight - the cloud bank was just too thick - but there was an amazing sky for a few minutes afterwards!
