Traveling from Bayfield to Toronto, to Tobermory, across to Manitoulin Island, continuing to Sault Ste. Marie and taking the Agawa Train Tour, a few days in the Soo, and then back to Bayfield through Michigan.
Not much to say about the drive up to Tobermory. For those who have done it you'll know that it's a nice enough drive but not really anything worthy of stopping at along the way. And even Tobermory itself doesn't really have much to comment upon.
Tobermory is a small community located at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The community is known as the "fresh water SCUBA diving capital of the world" because of the numerous shipwrecks that lie in the surrounding waters, especially in Fathom Five National Marine Park. Tobermory is also the northern terminus of the Bruce Trail, and has twin harbours, known locally as "Big Tub" and "Little Tub". Big Tub Harbour is Canada's largest natural freshwater harbour.
It was later in the day when I arrived, so just enough time for a brew at the Tobermory Brewing Company (or perhaps 6 brews, because I of course had to have the flight sampler), and then I drove to Big Tub Harbour to see the sunset. Unfortunately I was a bit late arriving, plus there was some cloud cover on the horizon tonight, but still a relatively nice sunset and a lovely way to end the first day.
